Get big city tough with Kryptonite's New York Lock. A 16mm hardened steel shackle scoffs at bolt cutters and leverage attacks, deterring even the most determined bike thieves. The shackle is held in place with a hardened deadbolt locking mechanism for exceptional holding power, while the hardened steel sleeve over the crossbar adds even more toughness. When you're ready to get back in the saddle, unlock this mean guard using one of the three included keys. For nighttime unlocking, the key with an LED light makes the process even easier. And, with a $3000 anti-theft protection free for one year, rest assured knowing your bike is guarded on the toughest streets.
This lock is virtually indestructible. I've owned it for over 3 years and my bike which is really nice and a target for thieves has never been stolen.
I've seen gash marks on the lock itself suggesting that thieves have attempted to pry it open to no avail.
It is expensive, but you can rest easy when you lock up your bike to this baby. It will last forever too. You'll go through all sorts of bikes in your life but this lock will probably outlast all of them.
Pros: Very easy to open and close, indestructible and gives you peace of mind. Lasts for years and years and years.
Cons: Very heavy, the carrying apparatus that comes with it is not very useful and breaks off after a while, forcing you to carry this in a back back.
Bottom LineYes, I would recommend this to a friend
Kryptonite is back in the game with re-designed locks that cannot be easily defeated. The New York lock, which is Kryptonite's flagship lock,is virtually undefeatable and indestructable. Although these are excellent virtues in a lock, they can also be detrimental as far as weight is concerned. The sheer weight causes a constant pull on the mounting bracket, which must be re-tightened constantly,or else it will slide down your frame, making carrying the lock elsewhere a burden, and this isn't the kind of weight you want to carry around! As soon as Kryptonite designs a better mounting bracket, this lock will have my blessings!
Bottom LineNo, I would not recommend this to a friend
