Now you can measure your power output without replacing any components on your bicycle. PowerTap's PowerCal Bluetooth Smart gives you real-world and real-time data via a convenient chest strap. It's compact, light, and easy to bring along on every ride and on any bike so you get consistent training metrics. After the initial setup, the PowerCal uses complex scientific algorithms based on your heart rate to send accurate power data to your Bluetooth compatible device (sold separately) so you can maximize every training session. And, because it's attached to you and not your bike, you can use the PowerCal to track progress across multisport training disciplines as well.
This is my second one -- I bought it just to have a backup, though my first one has been flawless going on a couple years. It's a great product. No it's not a full-blown power meter but it's not meant to be. It's also only a FRACTION of the cost of one. It gives you a rough estimation of your overall power, and great to give you an idea what your NP, IF and TSS are. You can compare from one ride to the next. If you're a road racer and using power for training then you'll need a true power meter but as a mountain biker just looking for a ballpark range then this product is perfect.
Bottom LineYes, I would recommend this to a friend
How can you build a blue product, that doesn't work with your own computer. Is worthless. Doesn't work with any other third party app, with the exception of strava. I can't figure out why. The reason I wanted is to record the workout and track HRV, using a third party app.
Bottom LineNo, I would not recommend this to a friend
