Essentially, there are only two forces that that can slow down a racer: one is air drag and the other is inertia. The idea behind the Dura Ace wheels is to minimize and work against the inertia forces with its aerodynamic features. The new 22,4 mm rim ensures rigid wheels with improved efficiency and power transmission in both rotational and lateral directions. Thanks to the extremely lightweight carbon construction with a 50 mm rim height, air drag is significantly reduced. With these features the Dura Ace R9100 wheels are able to realize a strength saving up to 16 watt compared to the previous Dura Ace 9000 wheels.
